diy weathered wood

I absolutely LOVE the look of whitewashed wood... But I had yet to attempt on my own.  Until today!

I had a couple 2' boards leftover from my mason jar project leftover, so I decided to experiment a little!

I started by gluing the two boards together - I had no idea what I was going to do with the wood (or even if it was going to come out usable), but I am I glad I did.

I then brushed on one light coat of stain and let dry completely.

I then used plain acrylic craft paint and dry brushed it on over the stain... Super Important not to over saturate your brush, it should look like this...

Once done, I used a shop rag to wipe it down completely and let dry.

Then I lightly sanded it down.  Look at the difference!

I loved the way it came out, so decided to turn it into a southern inspired sign for my kitchen using 2" stencils and a sharpie!

So easy, so cute! And it happily reminds me of my family in South Carolina❤️
